“Lonesome for You”

Recorded Thursday, August 25, 2011.

Key: A

OMG, a vi-ii-V-I chord progression! This is unprecedented, here at the CFP; we’ve been slogging through I-IV-V progressions so long we’re starting to dream in them. Fran screams GO TO THE FOUR when I’m just humming along with the radio.

Fran is embarrassed by this take because there’s a big fat clam in the middle of his guitar break. But, the point of this project is not to be perfect, produced, and clam-less. It’s to record every damn Carter song! If we worried about flubs we’d still be working on Bury Me Under the Weeping Willow.

I’m embarrassed by this take because the baby woke up just as we turned on the recorder. You can hear him wail, and you can hear our conscious decision to let him cool his heels in his crib for five more minutes. It’s digital evidence of my neglectful mothering, for all eternity, like one of those politicians who texts all his dirty little secret desires to a lady friend, certain it will be seen only by her… only to later find the transcripts printed out and bandied about in court and sometimes in the New York Times.

Guest Star:

Diane Stockwell, fiddle and harmony vocal
